Antique English Furniture

When you speak about antique furniture most of the times it refers to antique English furniture which almost totally dominated the scene between 15-19th centuries. The most beautiful pieces belong to the beginning of the 18th Century where the grandeur of hand carvings was matched by the addition of mirrors to different types of furniture. You would find that antique English furniture of that period has mirror on the doors of wardrobes, the front side of writing desks (to reflect the hand while writing) and so on.

The chair that belong to this era are tall, high seated and upholstered dramatically to give both visual impact and excellent comfort.  The back of these chairs had more curves and more flowing designs, which was a great improvement over the somber antique English furniture of the 17th Century. Another peculiarity of that period is that the chairs' legs were rounded to look like an inverted "S" which was a beautiful idea then. This particular design is known as cabriole and it is most common in places where Spain had conquered the lands.
